besan ka chilla recipe

Course Breakfast
Cuisine Indian, Punjabi

Ingredients

  • 1 cup besan or gram flour or chickpea flour
  • 1/2 tsp ajwain or carom seeds
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp dhaniya powder
  • 4 cloves garlic crushed optional
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup sweet corn
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander chopped
  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee

Instructions

  • take besan, carom seeds, red chilli powder, dhaniya powder, crushed garlic and salt in a bowl and mix well. add the water and make a batter of pourable consistency.
  • heat the griddle or tawa on medium heat. once hot pour a ladleful of batter and spread it to make round shape pancake. drizzle a little oil (i use a non-stick pan and do away with oil) and let the chilla get cooked on one side. then flip it using a spatula and cook the other side till gets golden brown. then add the onion and coriander leaves. fold it into half, once cooked, remove it to a plate and serve hot with pickle, chutney or even tomato sauce. anyway, it tastes yummy.
  • besan ka chilla or gram flour crepe is yummy- just try it!
  • to the same batter, i added sweetcorn, peas and grated carrot to make it more attractive and for my kids to eat. it makes for a healthier and nutritious breakfast recipe too. you can add some crumbled paneer if you like. the chilla is light on the stomach as i barely use any oil.

Notes

  1. You can make chilla without garlic too
  2. Just plain chilla is also delicious
  3. Use veggies and filling of your choice
