The resort caters for romance with fitting settings for honeymooners; its large and open spaces create a sense of calm. If you are an adrenaline junkie, then you can choose from an array of water sports or obstacle courses. Or take a dip in the pool or the sea. But if you are in lazy mode; relax in a hammock and read or take a walk in the sylvan surroundings.

The layout is such that the Olympic-sized swimming pool is the centrifugal point. It is flanked by cottages on either side, the main building on one end and the panoramic Bay of Bengal.

I knew I would love the resort when I set eyes on it. Lush green landscaping and wide open spaces are like manna for city dwellers. The welcome ceremony at Chariot Beach Resort Mahabalipuram; is very extraordinary. The traditional tikka and the matchless garland of shells followed by refreshing coconut water are served in their shells.

The resort buildings harmoniously blend into the natural terrain, giving it a feel of Greek architecture and French villas. We were given a ride to my cottage in a golf cart. And then I was overwhelmed with the path leading up to it. The cobbled green path is a natural facet of the layout. A tiny square stone cut out in the entrance with water and flowers were just the welcome for me. I splashed around in it like a kid. Once the door to my cottage was open, it was like the opening of Aladdin’s cave bursting with treasures. The tall French windows let the outdoors inside and I could view the pool from my bed.

Comfy Cottages

The cottages are bright and contemporary, with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. The other upscale amenities like a minibar, and sit-outs with beach views. The interiors are comfortable, keeping in mind the relaxation of the guest. Earth colours are my favourite and the earthy colour palette gives it a very restful ambience. The enormous king-sized beds with the springy mattresses floated me to slumberland and I slept like a baby. The décor soothes the senses.

There is a lavish washroom facility and a unique option of an open-to-sky shower. I am lactose intolerant and the in-room Tea/Coffee maker was ideal for me. I could brew my own black tea. The masala chai was of very fine quality and the sugar-free options were very thoughtful. Moreover, the whatever/whenever service of the staff member around the clock is always with a smile.

The Wi-Fi connectivity made me post my whereabouts on social media. My friends were full of envy at my good fortune and wanted to join me over the weekend. The baby pool with inflatable balls and a catamaran is a kid’s dream. In these days of nuclear families’ parents look forward to spending some quality time with their partners. The children’s play area keeps the kids out of their hair.

Fun and Dining

The settings appeal to the romantic in me and are relaxing in a unique and rustic way. They have lined the resort with several dining choices. Its beachfront shares the thrills and scenic seascape of the water sport-filled coastline.

Kapi

For all your hunger pangs, there is Kapi–the Multi Cuisine restaurant that caters to all palates. It offers a spread of Continental, Coastal South Indian delicacies, North-Western Frontier delights, Mediterranean cuisine and local cuisine.

Paanam

Paanam means beverage; an apt title for a bar isn’t it? The bar is bang opposite the restaurant. A long mahogany bar takes up one side of the room with wooden tables and chairs occupying the remaining area. There were plenty of tall bar stools arranged for long-legged drinkers who didn’t want to be seated at the tables. The proximity to the pool and the sea is a heady combo with any kind of spirit. This is THE place to unwind with friends or family.

Coast–

The Sea Food Restaurant is bang on the beach. It is as if the fresh fish from the sea lands on your plate to give you a gourmet experience. Treasure the panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal from the seafood restaurant as it whets your appetite.

Banquet Halls

The chariot has immense space for banquets and business meetings. Orchid, Marigold, and Frangipani are the three banquets named after flowers. Orchid has a seating capacity of 320 with a state-of-the-art setup with a projector et al. for visual media. Marigold has a capacity of 150 persons in a theatre setup and Frangipani accommodates 75 persons.

Rock garden

When the weather is pleasant, the lush Rock Garden is the chosen venue. Be it for product launches or dinners and houses 100 to 200 persons. This was where we enjoyed a karaoke night and danced away our blues.

The beachfront lawn looks onto the mighty sea. It is the perfect venue for weddings and cocktail dinners and product launches. Poolside parties are the trend and our group was playing ball in the pool. We were served tea/coffee and snacks right there.
