Fabrics for Tailoring or Ready-made Clothing
Custom-made clothing made from fabric or ready-made looks quite similar. Well, in reality, they are quite disparate. They are essentially different regarding manufacturing and price. What would you prefer? Fabrics for Tailoring or Ready-made Clothing?
Let’s check the pros and cons of Custom-made clothing.
Pros:
- Allows you to customize the fitting.
- You can choose the colour of your choice.
- Choose a print that you prefer.
- Choice of fabric
Cons:
- High priced as it involves buying fabric and tailoring a lot more manufacturing processes.
- Tailoring takes time
Ready-made clothing, on the other hand, is ready-to-wear, available off the rack, and priced less, as it is mass-produced. There is nothing exclusive in the design and fitting, as both are standardised.
What is Custom-made clothing?
Custom-made means personalised or tailor-made according to personal size and design with the material that you desire.
Since I was a little girl, I had a tailor master coming home and stitching my dresses. Once I was in college, I would choose a fabric, draw a design and ask him to replicate it. We used to have long arguments, but in the end, he would create precisely what I designed and feel mighty thrilled with his handiwork. If you want to be a trendsetter like me and have a flair for design, then start from scratch. Buy the fabric of your choice, design your own dress and get it tailor-made to fit you perfectly.
For custom-made clothing, plan in advance and have several trials before the last fit.

I always go for custom made clothing. Thanks for recommending FABCURATE. My next shopping will be at their site only.
I recently watched a movie named outfit. The protagonist explained the difference between a tailor and a cutter. Being a cutter takes a lot of work to perfect the craft. In the hum drum of fast paced life, premade clothing is the norm. Nothing beats the personalized experience of working with a cutter. Your introduction in this post reminded me of my childhood days. Seems like Fabcurate bridges that gap between a 1:1 cutter and mass produced premade clothing. Many online shops are providing custom or semi-custom clothing experience. Glad that outfits like Fabcurate are there so the craft can live on.
This is such a kool post, like I won’t say Om a fashionista but I like designing so I guess its worth a try out here
So you r a fashion designer too😉? A woman of many skills n talents I must say… amazing!
I have tried readymade blouses from fabcurate Harjeet and it is fairly reasonable compared to other such sites… but I had to alter as their sizes don’t match with the sizes of other sites. However, I noticed that they have a huge collection of fabrics, but like u mentioned, it turns out pretty expensive n to find a good tailor is another hassle. However, I really got tempted by their collection of materials and I may buy fabrics instead of readymade in my next purchase.
I personally explored this store very recently and was impressed with its collection. I recently placed order for 3 m fabric of floral print and the product is awesome.
Oh .. for a long I was drooling to order from my fabcurate. I always browse their collection but never bought anything as I was not sure about their authenticity. Thanks for this post.
I hardly go for custom made tailoring. Mostly I am a an readymade shopper. I do buy material sometimes and give it for stitching but that is mostly a full set of fabric which I just need to give to the tailor and deign it. I love ikkat designs. They look very traditional at the same time you can give a modern touch also and it never goes out of fashion.
There is a certain charm in purchasing fabric and then getting it custom stitched. These days readymades are just quicker and more convenient. I haven’t explored Fabcurate yet, Will surely check it out.
ohhh! having something tailored nowadays seems to be only for the wealthy while I don’t also agree that tailored clothing is much better than those ready made. If you happen to find a tailor who really makes the right fitting for you, then lucky you. On those few occasions I’ve tried some dresses to be tailored, most of them still are ill-fitting. Finding ready made ones is sometimes more convenient.
Your post reminded me of when I was young and we used to get stitching done each time I came back from the hostel. I really like the range Fabcurate is offering. Thank you for sharing about it.
I used to shop for material at a local shopping street in Bangalore. They have also have good tailors there …so it was easier to get it done up. And it was on the way back from work for me. Now, it is too far off to travel in the growing traffic. So I mostly just order ready to wear stuff online. Haven’t tried fabcurate till now – may be for the next purchase as the collection seems good.
I met a new fashion designer. I love Ekkat. And always prefer custom made clothing but only for blouses and turning Sarri in western gowns ☺ Thanks for the recommendation. Will try shop from Fabrucate.
Although the pros are many, I find the hunt for the perfect tailor really elusive. Fab curate has an incredible collection of fabrics. I own a good collection of theirs myself and love them.
Thank you for sharing this it’s really helpful as I love designing my clothes and your recommendations is really helpful
I am not amazed to know that you are a fashion designer too, because I am very sure you have many talents. This one too is too good. However, if you tell me about myself, I can only make designs via stitching, making cloths is very hard for me.
FabCurate has an excellent selection. I too have shopped from them!
