The Kaziranga National Park
Last year, we explored the breathtaking beauty of Kashmir, known as the “paradise on earth.” This year, we ventured into the enchanting Seven Sisters states in the North East of India-The Kaziranga National Park. Our gang of 15 gung-ho women in their fifties set out for an incredible summer holiday. A rousing welcome by the vibrant and graceful Bihu dancers at the airport set the tone for the trip.
Mesmerizing Seven Sisters
The rugged landscapes, lush greenery, and vibrant cultures of the Seven Sisters states mesmerized us at every turn. From the wildlife at Kaziranga to the rolling hills of Meghalaya, and ended with the graceful and lyrical dance style of Manipur. The diverse tapestry of this province is engrossing. The experience of the off-the-beaten-path destinations exploring the wild Kaziranga was thrilling. Indulging in authentic local cuisine, and connecting with the warm-hearted people we encountered along the way, was the cherry on the cake.
We created memories that will last a lifetime; laughed, played puerile games, sang and danced, and shared stories. We continue to prove that age is just a number, and adventure knows no limits.
So, here’s to another summer holiday done right, with my incredible gang of empowered women. We prove once again that life is to be lived to the fullest, regardless of our age. Vijayawada to Hyderabad and then a long haul to Guwahati airport.
Our trip was full of incredible moments. The vehicle with small seats, the non-existent AC, and the scorching weather that we were escaping from in Andhra Pradesh did not dampen our spirits. We drove down to Kaziranga Park, which was a good 220 km away.
Woody Bogors Resort
Late evening, we checked into Borgos Resort and Spa; perched at the fringe of the iconic Kaziranga National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) famous for two-thirds of the world’s population of one-horned rhinos. ‘Borgos’ is the Axomiya word for ‘banyan tree. Borgos is a resort with a life and soul that derives its serenity from its surroundings.
Local bamboo and wood added to the Assamese architecture make sure you’re at leisure in the lap of nature. It includes elegant rooms and suites, upscale amenities, a variety of dining options and beautiful event venues. A peaceful sanctum, bang amidst the wilderness of Kaziranga. It seemed incredibly secluded, yet easily accessible.
Borgos Resort in Kaziranga is a loving tribute to the alluring flora and fauna that surround it. The resort respects the environment.
Bogors Food
A 24×7 dining restaurant that offers a delectable spread of Indian and international cuisines. The dinner buffet was a gourmand experience. The next morning, we again tucked in the decadent breakfast complete. Bogors also presents truly authentic, undiluted Assamese dishes using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
They rightly named the amenity centres in the resort after the animals in the Sanctuary-There is Jackal Pool Room, Buffalo Gym, the Deer Conference Hall, a Rhino auditorium and the Jasmine Spa.
Women and retail therapy go hand in hand and the Kabaree Shopping Centre showcased locally sourced items; Clothes and bags, Assamese Tea, handicrafts, and elaborate jewellery. I set my heart on the giant parasol made with the traditional red and white Gamusa. But one cannot carry it back home on the flight.

The Kaziranga National Park
After a hot day, you can cool off in the Diffloo Swimming Pool.
Before dinner, we were fortunate to see the graceful Bihu and Jhumair performances on the immaculate lawns.
“Luscious forests, tall grasslands and swampy lagoons give Kaziranga its unique landscape that is home to some of the most remarkable flora and fauna. It has been regarded as one of the finest wildlife refuges in the world,” says the Borgos resort.
On the dot of the 8.30 am call, we embarked on three jeep safaris through the dense forests of Kaziranga that are home to one-horned rhinos, tigers, swamp deer, wild buffaloes and elephants.
I learnt a salutary lesson that I should read up on the safaris before the trip. I would have loved to take the elephant safari at 5 am to explore the denser and more remote areas of the forest. Sighting a tiger in the wild would be an amazing & thrilling experience.
I would have given anything for a glimpse of the golden tiger with cinnamon stripes or the orange and black. The Lord of the Jungle is the tiger for me and not the lion. I had my grandson, Arian, on a video call from Mexico, excited to see the animals that he infinitely admires.
Kaziranga is a Bird watcher’s paradise. When we got off the jeeps in an open enclosure by the lake, the guide pointed out to the cutest looking baby turtles hanging on to a twig in the lake.

That is an exotic Kaziranga trip. yes I agree we should first read then visit. Then it becomes more exotic and beautiful. Thanks for the video it is lovely.
Wow! I really wish to visit this place with my kids as they would love it!! Thanks for sharing so much details before I make a visit!!
You seemed to have a lot of fun at Kaziranga National Park. Truly a holiday well spent. I have never watched Bihu in person. But I have always admired its subtle moments.
Oh wow! I have been looking for groups like this to travel. Can you give me more details. Lovely pics and short, yet informative description, Harjeet. Enjopyed reading your post. Have so much to learn from you.
Cmon, Janaki 🙂 What is there to learn? Just never give up and age is not a limiting factor to do anything.
You are truly an inspiration , maintaining life is to be lived and showing us how to too. Kaziranga national park is on my list too. A hectic but rewarding tip indeed.
I have been to Kaziranga thrice and on the first trip, I stayed at the Borgos too. I quite like the early morning safaris, but I decided to skip the elephant safaris in the future, seeing the plight of the animals. In Kaziranga, we even saw the wild elephants from the road and also the rhinos. The jeep safari in the evening was quite a vista, saw all the animals grazing in the wild in harmony–elephants, deers, rhinos, all in a world of their own.
That must have been so thrilling to explore not just the wildlife but also the interesting food , culture and heritage and all in the company of great friends.
I have heard before of Kaziranga National Park. You experience says it all about the place.
So, the travel bug has bitten you Harjeet😉… last time the Writer’s Retreat n now this… m so happy for you. What a lovely account of your travel… it is so tempting… like I wanna go there right now. I actually felt like I was there😀. Lovely pics! and it is evident from your writing that u truly had a good time n the north east touched your heart.
Keep them coming!!!
What an incredible journey you had! Your exploration of Kashmir must have been a breathtaking experience. Venturing into the enchanting Seven Sisters states in the North East of India and visiting the Kaziranga National Park sounds like a wonderful choice. The rousing welcome by the vibrant and graceful Bihu dancers at the airport sounds like a delightful and memorable way to begin your trip. It’s wonderful to witness the local culture and traditions firsthand, creating a joyful atmosphere from the very start. The rich biodiversity and natural beauty of the region must have left you in awe. Wish you many more amazing journeys ahead with your gang. It’s an inspiration to all. Loved you photos💞
Wow, being an empowered woman you are showing us the sky is the limit of the happy experiences you share here. Wishing you more adventure and happiness.
I can feel the heat of your happiness that you experienced while taking a tour of the Kaziranga national park. Look at you carefully mam who can say you are 50… you proved age is just a number and we should embrace the spirit of happiness to make our stay on earth memorable. I am a little scared about tigers in special but will love to have the courage in me to go for an elephant ride. Overall the experience sounds impressive. You mentioned that you liked the giant parasol made with the traditional red and white Gamusa. But one cannot carry it back home on the flight. Is there any specific reason behind that?
I am really enjoying reading about your trip and your photos. The North East is really beautiful. We used to break journey in Guwahati but never had a chance to visit Kaziranga.
I have been following your Seven Sisters updates on Insta and absolutely loving them. Way to go, Harjeet! Enjoyed reading about your trip to Kaziranga. I wish we could visit it when we were there. But hope to go back to Guwahati soon. Thanks for sharing all the details.
My uncle recently visited this place and shared some amazing pics and videos. Your post added so much to what he shared. I hope to visit this place and have some wonderful moments myself.
Lovely travel experience! I love that you chose to share your experience that advocates letting animals live in their natural habitat rather than them being a tourist attraction and those who ride on them just to take photos. The other parts of your trip also added to the vibe to be more enjoyable! And the food of course, who could forget about that!
Trips with friends have their own charm. And yes we do things with friends that we may not be inclined to do otherwise. The pics & video are lovely. Glad to see you enjoy your time out.
As a nature lover and wildlife enthusiast, Kaziranga National Park has been a part of my travel list. Since it is home to two-thirds of the world’s population of the majestic one-horned rhinoceros, it makes it a prime destination for rhino sightings. There can be no place better. Your journey sounds absolutely incredible! The warm and lively welcome by the graceful Bihu dancers at the airport must have set the perfect tone for your trip, immersing you in the vibrant local culture from the very beginning. Witnessing the region’s rich biodiversity and breathtaking natural beauty must have left you in a state of wonder. I loved all your pictures and can imagine the excitement you felt when you saw the elephants, the rhinoceros, turtle, had the wildlife encounters and witnessed stunning landscapes. Here’s to many more amazing journeys ahead with your gang, serving as an inspiration to all.
We Indians are so blessed with such rich wildlife. I visited Kaziranga when I was very young with my parents and loved every bit of it! Reading your post made me nostalgic.
Seven sisters are truly mesmerizing, specially lush green heritage and rich vibrant culture. I simply can’t take off my eyes from these amazing pictures. It must definitely have been such a memorable trip. I believe at an affordable price, I want to visit these places now, so beautiful they are.
I have been to Guwahati but not to Kaziranga National Park. We went to Shillong and Cherrapunji and it was beautiful
Ah, you took me back to those days when I visited Kaziranga, which is just a year ago. So, the memories are fresh. I didn’t deliberately opt for the elephant ride because I am dead against animal cruelty. They have a long-term impact carrying humans around and the men don’t treat these animals with kindness.
I too love tigers and they are majestic! Couldn’t spot a tiger on my visit either but was fortunate to see and capture rhinos, different birds, and water buffalos on my camera. Thank you for sharing the pictures, especially loved the turtles 🙂
Heard a lot about this amazing national park. Its in my bucket list. You have mentioned everything in detail. it’s so good .
Kaziranga National Park was indeed a fantastic experience for you, filled with breathtaking wildlife, delicious food, vibrant culture, and cherished memories with friends. I have never been to the north east… would love to explore it. Thanks for a detailed and interesting travelogue. Wishing you many more such exciting travels!
Was so glad to read your experiences to kaziranga. I’m really sure being animal lovers my kids would definitely like to visit this place some day
I’ve visited Kaziranga in 2019 and did the fantastic elephant safari though we were not lucky enough to see a big cat. It was nice to relive those memories through your post.
