Pink Guava Ice-cream with Chilli Powder

Pink Guava Ice-cream with Chilli Powder-Are you wondering about this homemade guava ice cream with just 4 ingredients. Yes, it is creamy, has a natural guava flavour without any added flavours and sprinkled red chilli powder on top! Ice cream with Guava flavour? I first had this at a Bombay Kulfi that opened last year in my city. A small disc of natural guava kulfi cut into triangles and dusted with red chilli powder; I was amazed at this combo but bowled over by the taste. I have tasted Mexican chocolates which have cayenne peppers in it! But this has such a local tang to it.

When you dig into this ice cream, you get the buzz of the guava, the spicy topping on the top juxtaposed with the condensed milk and cream. Please do try this hopelessly lip-smacking and easy peasy Guava Ice cream and fall in love with it as I did.

This pink-fleshed jewel is apparently the next “super-fruit” to hit the world of healthy foods.

Guava is used to treat an array of ailments; fever, constipation and diarrhoea, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia and dysentery. Tea made of guava leaves to treat these and to cleanse wounds.

Guavas are recognised for their seedy flesh. In the centre of a guava there are between 100-500 edible seeds.

India produces over 27,000 tons of pink guava every year.

One thing is for sure the guava is going to be more popular soon but then the price may hit the roof….so make guava ice-cream while you can.

Pink Guava Ice-cream with Chilli Powder

Homemade guava ice cream with just 4 ingredients

Pink Guava Ice-cream with Chilli Powder

INGREDIENTS

2 large pink guava or 250 gms

100 gms Whipping cream or regular cream

1/2 tin condensed milk

1 cup water

METHOD

Firstly, dice the guava into four parts. Scoop out the seed part if it is too hard with a paring knife.

Set aside half a guava chopped into tiny pieces to add crunch to the ice cream.

Chop roughly into chunks. Place in a blender along with one cup of water.

Do not blend it till smooth as you do not want to crush all the seeds.

Now, strain the blended guava and set aside.

Meanwhile, whip cream until soft peak and add the condensed milk.

Give it a speedy whisk and add the blended guava puree.

Now give it a quick whisk to blend all three ingredients. Add in the tiny pieces of guava and fold in gently.

Pour into a wet ice-cream mould, seal with cling film. Freeze overnight or 6 hours.

Finally, scoop and serve Pink Guava Ice-cream with Chilli Powder. Dust some hot red chilli powder over it for that final kick!
