Banana Lassi- Navratri Vrat Recipes

Vrat ka Khana

Fasting or Vrat is an integral part of the Hindu Religion.is a common practice in India. During the Vrat period, one has to be clean in mind as well as the body, be truthful, practice moderation, eat vegetarian, and perform certain rituals. Once you start a Vrat or fast it cannot be left unfinished. The nine-day Navratri Vrat or fasting starts tomorrow and I will be posting one recipe every day. I am posting this Banana Shake today, yes one day before so that you have one recipe ready for every Vrat day. Banana Lassi- Navratri Vrat Recipe is a delicious and power-packed drink. While fasting a banana yoghurt smoothie is great as it keeps you full for a longer time.

Blessed Navratri and Blessed Vrat to you all.

What is Navratri?

Navratri is the start of the festival season; Dussehra. .A time when Goddess Durga is adorned with bejewelled attires. Time of Navratri, when devotees worship the different avatars of the Goddess for nine days. The word ‘Navratri’ symbolises the nine auspicious nights during which Goddess Durga is venerated and most people observe fasts. During Navratri, most people give up onion, garlic and non-vegetarian food.

Who celebrates Navratri?

Generally, a large part of north, west and central India observe fast on all nine days. While some people choose to fast only on the first and the last day of the festive period. Navratri festivities are looked forward to and young and old step out in their best to take part.

Foods Eaten During Vrat

Ingredients like kuttu atta, singhara atta, fresh vegetables, milk, yoghurt and makhana are partaken as they are light on the stomach and can be digested easily. Rock salt or sendha namak is used instead of regular salt, as it is pure and unprocessed. It is a time to detox and a Satvik diet is best to do that. It is a time to rejuvenating the body and skin.

Benefits of Banana

Banana is a fruit which is filling and good for the digestive system. It is an instant energy booster and one fruit that is universally available across the world. Banana is laden with fibre and keeps you feeling full for a longer time. No wonder bananas are habitually incorporated in breakfast so that you can start your day with energy. This is the reason why I feel that a Banana Lassi or Indian smoothie with walnuts, yoghurt and honey is perfect for starting your day during Navratri.

The goodness of Walnuts and Honey

By adding Walnuts which are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats, the heart is protected too. When I went to Kashmir, I got some honey which is like white gold and collected from an apple orchard. Honey is a sweet liquid made by bees which collect the nectar from the blossoms. It is used as a sugar substitute.

Creamy Yoghurt

Yoghurt is not popular because it is thick and creamy. It is liked because every scoop of yoghurt is a scoop of good health. It has calcium which is good for bones, it is easy on the tummy, controls blood pressure and builds immunity.

Can you now see how this one glass of Banana Lassi with Yogurt as the main ingredient along with banana, walnuts, and honey is almost a complete meal in itself?

Treat yourself to this healthy Banana Lassi every morning and forget the fasting as you celebrate Navratri.
