Aging Well vs no Looking Young: What Truly Changed for Me

This post is part of Blogchatter’s A2Z Challenge: Aging Well vs Looking Young: What Truly Changed for Me.
I Never Measured Myself Against Others

I have never been someone who looked around to see how others were doing or how they looked. Comparisons never came naturally to me. Compliments were not something I heard often, either, but strangely, I never missed them. Somewhere within, I always knew I looked good, not in a loud or attention-seeking way, but in a quiet, assured manner. If anything, I was my own biggest critic. I noticed the smallest changes in myself long before anyone else did. So when I speak about aging well vs looking young, it does not come from a place of chasing approval. It comes from a place of awareness.
When You First Notice the Change

The changes did not arrive dramatically. They never do.
It was small things. Weight that refused to leave. A result of years of steroids to treat my depression.A certain heaviness in my walk on some days. Fine lines that appeared softly around my eyes, almost like they had always belonged there.
For a brief moment, I became aware of them in a way I had never been before.
But I did not resist them.
I observed them, acknowledged them, and then chose to carry them lightly. There is a grace in accepting change without letting it define you.
What Aging Well Means to Me Now
Over time, my understanding of beauty has settled into something much deeper.
For me, it has never been about flawless skin or a perfect figure. It is about how you feel when you wake up, how you move through your day, and the kind of energy you bring into a room.
A calm mind, a kind heart, and a sense of contentment reflect in ways no product ever can.
Even today, when people try to guess my age and get it wrong by a decade, it makes me smile. Not because I need that validation, but because I know the effort, the discipline, and the choices behind it.
And more importantly, I know how I feel.
My Daily Routine: The Real Secret

There is no shortcut to feeling good in your own skin. What people see on the outside is built quietly over the years.
My mornings begin with an hour of yoga. It centres me before the day begins. I follow this with simple herbal teas—sometimes cumin, sometimes tulsi and mulethi, Blue pea flower or Chamomile. Nothing fancy, just consistent.
My meals are home-cooked, simple, and nourishing. I chose to stop eating meat 3 decades ago, and I have stayed away from processed food as much as possible. I rarely order in. It is a lifestyle choice that has become second nature.
There is a rhythm to my day: balanced meals, mindful eating, and staying active. I go to the gym three times a week and walk whenever I can. It is not about pushing limits but about staying connected to my body.
I may not be as slim as I once was, but I feel strong. And that strength gives me far more confidence than any number on a scale ever could.
Skin Care: Kept Simple and Natural

Over the years, I have realised that skin responds best to care that is gentle and consistent.
I have never depended much on products in fancy jars. Most of what I use comes straight from the kitchen-simple combinations that have worked for me over time-nothing complicated, nothing harsh.
There is something comforting about using ingredients you trust. It feels more personal, more real.
Whether it is a quick scrub or a nourishing mask, I have always believed that taking a few minutes to care for your skin is a way of slowing down and care for yourself.
If you are someone who prefers simple, natural care, I have shared a few of my go-to routines here:

My approach to hair care has always been the same—keep it natural and give it time.
I have never felt the need to use chemical dyes. Instead, I chose gentler, natural options that take a little more effort but feel right in the long run. The same goes for hair oils. I prefer making my own blends, using ingredients I am comfortable with.
These are not instant solutions, but they build strength over time. And I think that is what aging well really is: choosing what works in the long run, not what works overnight.
If you are curious, I have shared my exact methods here:

Living Fully, in My Own Way

One thing I truly enjoy now is participating in life without hesitation.
Whether it is a music event, a hobby class, or any new experience, I show up fully. I may be the oldest person in the room sometimes, but it has never made me feel out of place.
If anything, it reminds me that age is just one part of who we are.
Even in how I dress, I choose comfort without giving up on grace. I enjoy putting together outfits that feel like me. And yes, I wear my walking shoes with almost everything.
In fact, I have them in every colour—silver, gold, you name it. They are comfortable, practical, and somehow, they have become a part of my style. I often feel they make me stand out most nicely.
Aging Well vs Looking Young: My Quiet Truth
I no longer look for approval, not from the mirror and not from people.
I already know how I feel.
Aging well vs looking young is not something I struggle with anymore. I have made my choice, quietly and confidently.
Choosing to care for my body because it carries me through life. I choose to respect it because it deserves that respect. And I choose to live fully, without holding back.
We are given one body for this entire journey. The way we treat it shows, not just in how we look, but in how we live, how we feel, and how we carry ourselves every single day.
And when you begin to see it that way, aging does not feel like something to fight.
It feels like something to honour.
