Mediterranean Shakshuka Fish Fillet Recipe
Shakshuka holds a special place in my heart. I’ve made the classic egg version many times. I wanted to try something different. I created a Mediterranean-inspired Shakshuka Fish Fillet Recipe that turned out amazing! Shakshuka isn’t just about eggs; in the Mediterranean, it’s also a versatile cooking method used for seafood.
For me, this dish brings back memories of family dinners—full of colour, flavour, and warmth. The red sauce complements the fish fillets visually and gastronomically. It’s light yet immensely satisfying, perfect for a hearty dinner. Best of all, this one-pot wonder comes together in just 30 minutes!
For all seafood enthusiasts, this Mediterranean Shakshuka Fish Fillet is a must-try!
Ingredients
1 tbsp chopped fresh mint leaves
3 fish fillets (use any firm white fish)
2 tsp coriander powder
1 ½ tsp cumin powder
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 large onion, chopped
8 garlic cloves, chopped
1-2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
5 ripe tomatoes, blanched and diced or pureed
Juice of 1 lime
½ cup water
Salt and pepper, to taste
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
Method
Prepare the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a large, deep pan.
Sauté the chopped onions for 2 minutes until softened.
Add garlic and jalapeno peppers. Sauté until fragrant but not browned.
Stir in the tomatoes, spices, lime juice, water, salt, and pepper.
Simmer the mixture on medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
Season the Fish
Season the fish fillets generously with salt and pepper.
Coat the fish evenly with the spice mix.
Combine and Cook
Gently place the fish fillets into the simmering tomato mixture.
Nestle the fillets snugly in the sauce, covering them partially.
Cook on medium-high heat for 5 minutes, then reduce to a simmer.
Cover and cook for another 10 minutes, until the fish is flaky and fully cooked.
Check the fish with a fork to ensure it’s tender and easily flakes apart.
Final Touch and Garnishing
Remove from heat once the fish is done.
Garnish with fresh cilantro and mint leaves.
Serve immediately with rice, pita, or bread for a wholesome meal.
This light yet flavorful dish can be ready in 30 minutes. Shakshuka Fish Fillet bursts with Mediterranean vibrance, perfect for your next dinner.
