Time for Sustainable Retuning

It is time for all mortals to pull up their socks. If we do not take any steps now the generations after us will have to sustain themselves with oxygen tanks carried on their backs. Doesn’t it sound crazy? The Pros and Cons of Covid are debatable but the majority of us have learnt one valuable lesson. There is greater consciousness of carbon footprint and the destructive influence on Mother earth. For a start, implement these 5 Tips to Make Your Home Eco-friendly.

All areas of our life need to be given a think over. Making minute modifications in the way we live, eat or travel will have a sustainable impact. We don’t have to do grandiose things or sacrifice our comfortable lifestyle. Just a nip here and a twist there can help save energy and reduce toxic emissions. Going “ green” here doesn’t mean getting jealous, it’s just making your life eco-friendly.

  1. Save Water Save Earth

Just like we need oxygen to breathe we need water to sustain ourselves. Water wastage should be cut down. Use water, keeping in mind how you can put in your two cents to save resources. Avoid leaving the faucet open while brushing your teeth or when you are taking a shower. Recycle water in such a way that you can use it to water the garden. The RO water filters waste a lot of water. If you can recycle it then go ahead or else opt for a UV Filter.

2.  Use a Smart Thermostat for your AC

An initial cost on a thermostat will surely lower your electricity consumption and the bill. Systemize settings with a smart thermostat and switch on your AC at a comfortable temperature rather than chilly. You can control your cooling temperature with your smartphone as it is wi-fi enabled. The major plus is that they go on standby mode when inactive.

3.  Changeover to LED lights

LED lights save more than 80% of energy compared to reflector bulbs or fluorescent lights. The world is switching over to LED as it emits less heat and lasts much longer. Emitting very little heat, LED lights last up to 10 times longer than traditional lighting, reducing the number of times you have to go for replacements. The light is cooler and bright and it will cut down your power bills.

4.  Switch to Sustainable Articles

Make total use of the sun by designing your home in such a way as to optimise sunlight. Solar panels are a great way to create sustainable energy and a wise investment. Use local materials as it reduces the degradation of the environment in transportation.

5.  Grow A Flower or Vegetable Garden

A small garden in every home has a sustainable and eco-friendly effect and at the same time keeps you physically and mentally healthy. Agreed not all of us have a garden but now you can grow microgreens or take up square foot gardening which needs less space. You can even grow a vertical garden or go for hydroponics. The relaxing ambience of a garden is the crowning glory.

We need to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Growing a vegetable garden is such an excellent option. Both for the environment and mental health. Even a balcony garden will do.

We are using electricity so much that we tend to forget to switch off the button whenever we are not using it. And yes in my home we are using LED lights. Your tips are really helpful and economical. We also have solar panel for hot water. If everyone try this economic way we can save lot of electricity.

We definitely need to all pitch in with our contribution to avoid climate change. These five points are so relevant to each of us and simple to do. I have floated all these points – save water, use AC sparingly with a smart app, led bulbs, have a kitchen garden and I also have solar panels to generate electricity, but only local and sustainable goods…
