Beauty is age-old and we have heard the natural beauty routine of Cleopatra. The ancient skin care practices from India are legendary and in use to this day. Nevertheless, we opt for the swanky looking pots, jars, tubes, compacts or quaint vials. Unquestionably, they didn’t have the skincare marvels we have now;  spa systems, Botox, and myriad serums and anti-ageing creams. There are numerous ways but I have compiled 6 Tips To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable.

Did you know that an ordinary plastic bottle of moisturiser may take 1000 years to decay? That is a humungous number. Just visualize the billions of jars scattered all over the earth.

What is sustainable beauty, precisely?

Sustainable beauty is not mere talk, it is a crusade that each one of us should take up. It’s about embracing eco-friendly products for our beauty rituals. Furthermore, choosing the right and organic beauty is the mantra for a better future.

Make Your Beauty Regimen Sustainable

The beauty industry is a colossal and lucrative money-making channel. We definitely cannot change it overnight. Just like every drop makes an ocean, if each one of us is environmentally aware and influence those around us, it will be a step towards saving Mother Earth. I have always believed in sustainable beauty and here I share

6 Tips To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable

Recycling

  1. Recycle

Though reduce and reuse precedes recycling, when you are finally done with a product just be aware of disposing of your empty pots. Fortunately, a few brands have great schemes fantastic initiatives for advocating recycling with freebies.

M.A.C. has taken up the cause of preserving the environment. Through the Back to M.A.C. program, they accept primary packaging of six used containers and reward you with a free lipstick of your choice. The Enrich Not Exploit Commitment of The Body Shop is to become a global leader of sustainable business.

Other brands joining the environmental band is Forest Essentials, Khadi Natural, McCaffiene and more.

  1. Share your unused Beauty Products

We all indulge in impulse buying. We end up using a lipstick that doesn’t suit you or a lotion that erupts into a rash. All beauty products have a shelf life. If you are not going to use it then give them away to your family and friends. Surely they would appreciate the windfall. By doing this we can decrease buying and utilizing products.

  1. Avoid Single-Use Napkins

Reusable Towels

is so easy to grab a paper towel and mop up the mess in the kitchen. They make up a major part of landfills and choke drains. All of us reach out for wet wipes to remove makeup and clean babies’ drool or their poop. It is mostly flushed down and it clogs many sewers. They have a domino effect on the environment. It is time to cut back on these useful but polluting household objects. They are all damaging for the earth. It is extra work but spends your money on reusable towels and napkins.

  1. Scrutinize the Packaging

Plastic is the number one enemy of the environment. It is a global crisis and a global crisis that mankind has to deal with. All beauty products like creams, lotions, oil and shampoo bottles are made of this roguish plastic. Opt for skincare products that come in glass jars. These days a few brands have started marketing in glass packaging so take this easy step towards sustainability. Few brands have gone for bio-degradable materials to lower their carbon footprint.

5 . Avoid Buying Minis

Mini Beauty Products

Most women have a penchant for the dainty looking mini pots of beauty products. They are ideal for travelling as they take little space. No wonder they are we can see why they are a perfect choice. After just a couple of uses, they are trashed.  Take the clever option of buying a set of reusable travel packs. It’s an easy transition to make your beauty and these are really the simplest ways to make a beauty regimen eco-friendly.

  1. Switch to Bamboo Brushes

In ancient days neem twigs or Babool twigs were used to clean the teeth. The plastic brushes came and eased them out. Bamboo is decomposable and biodegradable. It grows abundantly and is a practical and eco-friendly replacement for the plastic brush. I have switched to a bamboo brush, and you?

6 Tips To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable

My writing was limited to school essays and projects for my kids and out of the blue, my writing career began with writing articles for the magazine section of a reputed national newspaper. I rediscovered my best subject at school and began writing with gusto. I had a weekend column in the newspaper which was well appreciated. I started off writing about Interiors and Gardens and later diverse topics like Fashion, trends, food and events in the city. Juggling my time between various jobs down the years and my writing, I have written content for fliers, brochures for colleges, speeches, social media content and also website content. I love writing and I am open to writing on a plethora of topics. My blog has some interesting insights into my life and travels but now it is mainly a food blog as I am growing organic vegetables and cooking my own produce is very therapeutic. Read my blogs to know me better. I write from my heart and what I write is what I feel... I feel a feel, A funny feel A funny feel, feel I! If you feel the feel I feel You'll feel the same as I!!

Loved the ideas. I am also an earth-loving citizen and try my best to reduce and recycle by switching to the cup years ago and also by switching to glass jars and biodegradable products.

Really nice tips you have shared. I buy the huge bottles of products I regularly use like my shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, moisturiser etc. Also have long ditched face wipes and cotton pads, a nice napkin does the trick beautifully

Makes so much sense Harjeet. I try avoiding paper towels and don’t use much make up. in turn land up buying fewer products, but I’ve been considering reducing my purchase of lotion and shampoo bottles as well.

These are excellent tips. And quite easy to switch over to. We often use beauty products daily and don’t realize that something we consider mundane is actually running the environment.

Very nicely put tips. I do some of these like the cloth napkins and giving away cosmetics that I have in excess. Yet to switch to bamboo brushes – that is in the pipeline. I also try to use cosmetics that are cruelty-free cosmetics, though many brands are still not clear about if there are completely cruelty free or if only in some countries.

I’m a firm believer in staying off mini products in any form, not just make up. It reduces waste, greatly. Also, glad to see big brands take the initiative to encourage recycling, even if it mean using incentives.

These are such helpful and practical tips. I personally share my beauty products with my relatives and close friends as I get a lot as PR packages, most of which remain unused. MAC and sometimes The Body Shop follow these recycle policy.

Beautiful and informative post. I am doing all these including some more – using bamboo tongue cleaner too, make my own floor cleaner and soap for myself, carry our own cutlery and steel bottle when we go out, using Cloth pads and Menstrual cups since 2014, kids used cloth diapers instead of plastic diaper, we buy either books or wooden/metal toys, not plastic toys. lets all unite to make this world a better place to live for the net generation.
