Heart shaped rotis-How to Make Food Appealing to Kids

There’s no love like a grandma’s love. And what better way to show it than through food? As a grandmother, love is best served on a plate. Cooking for my grandsons is fun, and the presentation is the key.. After all, kids eat with their eyes first! I am missing them and here I share How to Make Food Appealing to Kids, from a G ma.

The Language of Love Through Food

Love comes in many forms. It’s not just a bond between a man and a woman. I believe the way to anyone’s heart, especially kids, is through their stomach. When I cook for my grandsons, Arian and Amir, I serve love and not just food.

My Mexican grandsons are the apples of my eye. They’re energetic, adventurous, and, most of all, total foodies! I love spoiling them with heart-shaped treats, making every meal an adventure.

Heart-Shaped Love on a Plate

Kids see the world through heart-shaped glasses, don’t they? So, I match their vision! I made some love with heart-shaped raspberry jam-filled sandwiches and heart-shaped fried egg sandwiches. To wash it all down, I served a sweet strawberry milkshake. And, of course, a heart-shaped candy as a special treat. I know these little surprises will earn me a few extra hugs and kisses! XOXO.

It’s easy to create these charming dishes. I use a simple cookie cutter to shape the eggs and sandwiches into cute little hearts. The smiles on their faces make every moment in the kitchen worth it.

A Picnic of Love

My grandsons love playing outdoors, so what could be better than a picnic lunch in the garden? I made heart-shaped puris with a flavorful gravy of baby potatoes to maintain their Indian connection. Watching them devour the puris and lick their fingers clean brings me so much joy. They helped me roll them out.

To keep their energy levels high, I fried a heart-shaped egg to give them a dose of protein. Again, the cookie cutter works wonders, even with eggs! It’s amazing how a simple shape can make food so much more fun.

Fruity Fun and Festivities

Both Arian and Amir love fruits, so I cut watermelon, muskmelon, and dark grapes into tiny little hearts. It adds to the festive atmosphere, making their meals colourful and exciting. A refreshing glass of Roohafza milkshake to quench their thirst.

Grandma’s Special License to Spoil

As a grandma, I have the privilege—and the responsibility—to spoil my grandkids. What better way than by engaging them in the kitchen? Together, we whip up these fun, heart-shaped delights that make every meal an occasion. Seeing their delight is a grandmother’s best reward.

How to Make Food Appealing to Kids

Getting kids eager about food can be challenging. But with a little creativity, you can turn mealtime into an enjoyable experience. Here are some fun and practical ways to make food more appealing to children:

1. Make It Playful

Use cookie cutters to create shapes, or arrange ingredients into faces or animals. Try turning cucumber slices into flowers or making a happy face with pepperoni, carrots, and crackers.

2. Add Texture and Colour

Children love variety, so mix it up! Serve foods with different textures; crunchy, smooth, or chewy, and offer a vibrant array of colours on their plate. The more visually exciting the dish, the more likely they’ll dig in.

3. Introduce new foods with creativity

Start introducing new foods early and offer them multiple times. Combine new ingredients with their favourite foods to encourage them to try something new without hesitation.

4. Get Them Involved

Let your children take part in meal prep! Involving them in mixing, choosing ingredients, or arranging the plate. This increases their eagerness to eat what they’ve helped create.

5. Be Patient

Changing eating habits doesn’t happen overnight. Stay patient, and keep encouraging them with gentle nudges.

With these tips, mealtime can become a lovely experience, full of discovery and fun for you and your children.

Remember, making food appealing to your little ones is about shape, love, and fun.

Food made with love always tastes better, especially from Grandma’s kitchen!

Your grandkids are super cute and I am drooling over the pictures of the innovative foods you have listed. The strawberry custard looks interesting and I want to grab a bite of all, honestly! Hats off to the effort that goes into making all this.
