Moringa Masala Buttermilk Recipe

Moringa Masala Buttermilk Recipe

South Indians cannot do without Summer Drinks like Moringa Masala Buttermilk Recipe or just Buttermilk all throughout the year as we live in a really hot land. We have only two seasons here; summer and more summer! It is a staple in almost every meal and if it is not Buttermilk or Majjiga then curds or yoghurt is a must to cool down the system. Many just churn curds and water and drink it bland but most at home have a spiced or masala buttermilk which is doubly cooling and thirst-quenching.

Moringa Masala Buttermilk Recipe

Masala Buttermilk is easy to make and you can add and remove ingredients of your choice. I like to add Moringa powder as it is supposed to be a nutrient-packed. Moringa is nothing but the drumstick tree which is abundantly found here. A friend of mine who has a farm first gifted me a bottle of homemade moringa powder and I found it to be a good supplement. Then I bought one from the store but then I have a vegetable garden and got the seeds and sowed them. Within a few months, I have 2 Moringa or drumstick trees and now I can make my own homemade Moringa powder. You just have to wash and dry the leaves and make a powder. You can even dry roast in the micro if you cannot dry it out in the sun.

This is how I make Moringa Powder

Moringa is good for diabetics, cardiovascular function and even for the brain, it protects the liver, reduces inflammation and is good for many other ailments.

You can add Moringa Powder to your smoothie or make a tea with it as it has a mild flavour of its own or even in dal. Mine is usually with Moringa Masala Buttermilk Recipe where I add mint, coriander, curry leaves and a little bit of kaala namak or black rock salt as I avoid salt in Buttermilk.

METHOD

Firstly, in a hand-mixer jar add curry leaves, mint leaves, coriander leaves, moringa powder and black salt and blitz it.

Next, add the dahi or yoghurt and blend well.

Now, add chilled water and blend till you get a homogenous drink. Add ice cubes and churn to get thick frothy buttermilk.

Finally, pour the Moringa Masala buttermilk into a tall glass and sprinkle the cumin powder on top.

All the flavours blend well with each other and give a very cooling feeling to parched throats in summer.

Serve Moringa Masala Buttermilk chilled and store it in the fridge for refills during the day.

I had no idea you could add moringa powder to buttermilk or smoothies! I’ve always taken it with plain water, but mixing it with buttermilk sounds like a delicious and refreshing idea. Thanks for sharing, Harjeet!

I knew that buttermilk is great for digestion, and also cooling during summers, so it is part of our normal diet. However, I was not aware about combining it with Moringa, this is something that I shall incorporate soon. Thank you for the recipe.
