Tasty Plum Popsicles Recipe|Alu Bukhara
The Plum Story
Try out these tangy Tasty Plum Popsicles Recipe|Alu Bukhara today. They are chatpata and sweet at the same time. The sound of the bell of the ice cream vendor still rings in my ears although the kids have grown and gone. The clanging bell of the Ice cream vendor on a hot summer day was like the Pied Piper of Hamlin; all the kids in the neighbourhood would run after him. The icebox inside carried delicious ice-creams, frozen popsicles or ices in colourful flavours, shapes and sizes.
Popsicles have a very interesting history which is as old as the 13th century. Frozen ice was served to Marco Polo, the Italian explorer when he was visiting Kublai Khan in 1215-1294. India also knew about ices from the mountains which were coupled with fruit pulp, flowers, fragrance and colour. These were served to special guests at important banquets.
Popsicle Flavours
Possible flavours of Popsicles are endless; think of a flavour and someone somewhere has already made it. Tangy tamarind to avocado, chilli, strawberry, lemongrass to lemonade, all flavours have been tried out to suit individual taste. There are even popsicles spiked with vodka, rum or even fruity Sangria pops.
The store-bought lollies are of course much better in taste but homemade ice-lollies are healthier. The Popsicle industry has huge machines where the lollies are flash-frozen in seconds at very low temperatures. Whereas our home freezers are slow and the taste can vary on the outside and the inside. But seriously, does anyone think of all this while licking a Popsicle at home?
Plums are Healthy
Fruit of the season is the scarlet red plum and I made Tasty Plum Popsicles with this scarlet red fruit. This small ruby coloured orb is sweet-sour and packs a punch. Firstly, a handful of plums a day give you carbs, protein, fibre, vitamins, minerals and proteins to keep you healthy.
Secondly, Plums are rich in vitamin K that is good for kids as it helps in building healthy bones and finally they are loaded with Vitamin-A which is great for a strong vision. Along with these benefits, it is also good for the digestive system too.
Trivia about Popsicles
While driving home, I saw many cart vendors selling plums and I wondered what I could make with them and I struck upon the idea of a Juicy Plum Mojito and then made Plum popsicles. I set out to make the Popsicles wondering how they would taste and I was pleasantly surprised when they turned out just perfect.

I love the taste of lemons always but the distinctive flavour of the plums was very refreshing. The ripe plums were sweet and I had to add minimum sugar. I added Indian flavours like fresh mint, cumin powder and black salt and juice of one apple and lemon juice.
It is rare that I like mixing anything sweet with salt and in these plum Popsicles, I added black salt and cumin powder which gives the Plums a really flavourful punch. You can add or remove whatever suits your palate. It looked so exotic and rich and as I liked the colour I kept the juice thick but you can add more water if you would like to.
