Today, I’m sharing a straightforward recipe for Sabut Masoor Dal, also known as Brown Lentils. In Punjabi cuisine, lentils are a staple, each cooked uniquely. Packed with healthy proteins, lentils are essential for a balanced vegetarian diet. While Punjabi dishes can be rich and time-consuming, they can also be incredibly simple and quick to prepare. Here is Sabut Masoor dal or Brown Lentils Recipe.
How to Cook Sabut Masoor dal or Brown Lentils
Sabut Masoor Dal uses basic ingredients found in every kitchen. This brown lentil dish, tempered with cumin, onion, green chili, and tomatoes, results in a wholesome gravy. Like Dal Makhani and Kadhi, it tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together. This dal pairs perfectly with rice, roti, or whole wheat bread.
For a richer version, add two tablespoons of fresh cream. The consistency can be adjusted to your liking, but it’s typically served medium-thick—neither too thick nor too thin.
