Spicy Chicken Omurice Recipe is my presentation with the letter S. Omurice is a current Japanese fusion dish blending Western omelette with Japanese fried rice. I went a step..oops a few steps further and combined Chinese fried rice and Italian herbs in the chicken. The rice is typically pan-fried with ketchup and chicken, then wrapped in a thin layer of egg omelette. The softly-cooked omelette and spicy chicken fried rice complement each other very well. Am sure you will enjoy this quick and easy recipe!
What is omurice?
Omurice, or Omuraisu as it is pronounced in Japan, is a portmanteau (combination…showing off a new word I learnt) of “Omelette” and “Rice.” The origin of this dish is vague but it was somewhere around the last century. There are many versions to this Omurice and you can innovate as you like. Veg or chicken fried rice seasoned with ketchup. Generally, the rice is sweet but I added Schezwan sauce to make it spicy to suit our palate. As for the egg, typical styles of omurice is with a thin papery layer or omelette but I made a thick succulent blanket and wrapped the rice in it.
