Transformation: Embracing Change for Growth

I never imagined my life would unfold the way it did. From quiet domesticity to boardrooms and blog posts, the shift wasn’t part of any plan. But transformation rarely follows one. Sometimes, it’s born from necessity. And sometimes, it’s the unexpected turns that help us grow the most. Here is how I embraced Transformation: Embracing Change for Growth.

A Protected Start
I grew up in a secure, traditional household. Life revolved around family, culture, and home. I was the quintessential homemaker, married young and focused on raising my children and running the household. It was a life filled with love and structure, but not necessarily with personal ambition. That wasn’t seen as a priority. At the time, I didn’t even question it.
The turning point came with a sudden loss. In a matter of days, my world was unrecognisable. I was no longer just a homemaker; I became the sole provider for my family. There wasn’t time to think it through or ease into a new identity; I simply had to move. And that’s when my transformation began.
Reinventing at 40

I didn’t set out to change my life. I was forced to. When my husband passed away, I was left with two children to raise and no financial support. I had no choice but to step out and work. It wasn’t a dream, it was survival. The transformation was drastic and driven by sheer necessity.
started small—teaching spoken English, stepping into unfamiliar classrooms with little more than courage and the will to figure it out. There was no syllabus, no guidelines. I had to improvise, create my approach, and learn on the job. It was overwhelming at first, but slowly, I found my rhythm. Then came something radically different—I became the director of an agony aunt website called Zarasuno.com. It felt good to be seen, heard, and needed in a space outside the home.
Next came the admin role at the first mall in Vijayawada, a job that taught me more than I ever expected. I learned to lead, to organise, to adapt. I founded a grooming school, helping others find their confidence while rediscovering my own. Along the way, I never stopped writing. I blogged, freelanced for The Hindu and Times of India, created brochures, crafted brand stories, and penned features.
In between all this, I was a mystery shopper, sold garments, dabbled in events; anything that challenged me and pushed me forward.
Then came a big leap: I was appointed Manager of Corporate Communications and Customer Service at Air Costa. It felt like everything I had done until then had prepared me for that moment.
Life Hits Pause
And then, just like that, everything changed again. A spinal fusion surgery stopped me in my tracks. I was told I couldn’t return to full-time work. I was devastated, not just by the physical restrictions, but by the sense of being unmoored. I was jobless. Lost. Unsure how to move forward.
But transformation sometimes demands uncomfortable steps. Out of financial necessity, I converted my dream home into a short-term rental. It wasn’t fulfilling- it was survival. I dealt with guests who were often difficult, even disrespectful. The house I once cherished became a place of tension rather than comfort. Eventually, I rented it out full-time after my son’s passing, but the memories were too painful to keep living there. Letting go was not easy, but it was necessary. Selling that home marked the end of one era and the beginning of a new, more peaceful chapter.
Eventually, I sold it and moved to Hyderabad. Financial stability followed. So did peace.

Redefining Myself Inside and Out
Moving to Hyderabad was more than a change of address. It was freedom. After 17 years of adhering to social expectations and living a secluded life, I could finally breathe. I was no longer under constant scrutiny; no longer expected to play the part of the grieving widow or sorrowful mother. I was just me.
I made new friends. I started going to parties. I wore dresses—something I never thought I’d feel comfortable doing again. I changed how I looked because I had changed how I felt.
Growth Isn’t Linear
Transformation isn’t about perfection. It’s not a clean line from point A to B. Picture a once-timid homemaker thrust into unfamiliar territory with nothing but grit to carry her through. The world didn’t go easy—there were challenges, doubts, even harsh realities. But she kept moving, finding her footing and discovering her strength in the doing. That woman now stands tall, assured and unafraid, meeting life with grace and presence. It’s messy, non-linear, filled with twists and retries. But every shift—every moment of discomfort—helped shape the woman I am today.
From homemaker to career woman. From corporate leader to independent entrepreneur. From emotional wreckage to inner peace. I embraced change not because it was easy, but because staying still was no longer an option.
And that’s what transformation is. Not becoming someone new, but becoming more of who you truly are.
